Find Strength and Healing with Counseling for Those Who ServeFind Strength and Healing with Counseling for Those Who Serve
Those who serve carry experiences most people never see. Combat deployments, critical incidents, long shifts, and the weight of protecting others can leave lasting effects long after the mission ends. Many service members and first responders push through on their own because asking for help can feel like weakness. It is not.
South Metro Atlanta is home to corporate professionals, healthcare workers, airline personnel commuting to Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, and defense conactors. Our clinicians regularly see clients in these demanding roles presenting with chronic stress, depression, insomnia, and occupational burnout. Counseling offers a confidential space to slow down, understand what is driving the pressure, and build a more sustainable way to live and work.
How does trauma affect those who serve?
Repeated exposure to danger and loss can lead to post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Symptoms include nightmares, flashbacks, hypervigilance, irritability, emotional numbness, and avoiding reminders of what happened. Many also experience moral injury, the deep guilt or shame that comes from actions taken, witnessed, or failed to prevent that conflict with personal values.
Trauma often travels with other struggles. Depression, anxiety, sleep problems, and anger are common, and many turn to alcohol or other substances to cope. When substance use and a mood disorder occur together, it is called a dual diagnosis. Each condition can make the other worse, which is why both need to be treated together.
A professional counselor can help!
In consultation with your counselor, you will receive a confidential, comprehensive assessment that respects your service and your story. Your treatment plan is built around your goals, whether that is sleeping through the night, reconnecting with family, managing anger, or easing the transition to civilian life.
Our clinicians use evidence-based approaches for trauma, including EMDR therapy, cognitive processing approaches, and trauma-focused therapy. We also offer integrated care for dual diagnosis, combining counseling, addiction treatment, and medication management when needed. Family members are welcome to take part, because service affects the whole household.
At DNM Health Services, we are honored to support those who have served and those who continue to serve. Learn more about our Veterans Therapy services.
