Find Support and Reassurance with Perinatal & Postpartum Counseling

Pregnancy and a new baby are often described as the happiest time of life. For many parents, the reality feels very different. Sleepless nights, changing hormones, shifting relationships, and the pressure to be a perfect parent can leave you feeling overwhelmed, anxious, or numb. If that sounds familiar, you are not alone, and it is not your fault.

Perinatal mental health covers the emotional well-being of parents during pregnancy and the first year after birth. Postpartum depression and anxiety are among the most common complications of childbirth, yet many parents suffer in silence because they feel ashamed or fear being judged. Perinatal and postpartum counseling offers a safe, understanding space to heal, adjust, and enjoy your growing family.

What is the difference between the baby blues and postpartum depression?

Many new mothers experience the “baby blues” in the first two weeks after delivery, including tearfulness, mood swings, and worry. These feelings usually fade on their own. When symptoms last longer, grow stronger, or make it hard to function, it may be postpartum depression or anxiety. These
conditions can begin during pregnancy or any time in the first year after birth.

Warning signs include persistent sadness, constant worry or racing thoughts, trouble bonding with your baby, intrusive or frightening thoughts, panic attacks, feeling disconnected, and changes in sleep or appetite beyond what a newborn causes. Fathers and partners can experience postpartum depression
too. Parents coping with infertility, pregnancy loss, a traumatic birth, or a NICU stay also deserve
support.

A professional counselor can help!

In consultation with your counselor, you will receive a compassionate assessment of your mood, sleep, stressors, and support system. Your treatment plan is built around your stage of pregnancy or parenthood and your family’s needs. Treatment may include cognitive behavioral therapy, interpersonal therapy, coping and self-care skills, and support for adjusting to new roles.

Partners are welcome to join sessions, and couples counseling can help strengthen your relationship during this transition. When medication may help, our team can coordinate medication management in partnership with your OB-GYN or pediatrician, with careful attention to pregnancy and breastfeeding. Virtual sessions make it easier to get care without arranging childcare or leaving home.
